Photo of the day – Free as a bird

Sat in the car over looking the beach. I watched the sea gulls fly free in the wind. Wondering what it would be like to be as free as a bird. But I soon decided that my heated seats and warm car were far better alternatives to having to live cheek to jowl with the forces do Mother Nature.

As I become a 24/7 wheelchair user, as my feet give out and EDS pokes it tongue out at my attempts to defy it, I am having to find new ways of taking photographs. I spend a lot of time driving about the sparsely populate county of Ceredigion. Part of Ceredigion clings to the middle of the West Wales coast, on a good day, views to rival those of some of the best locations in the world. As I drive I am now learning to play spot the lay-by incase theres a good photograph opportunity I can grab, from the comfort of my car, or just leaning on it outside of it. This photograph was taken from one such lay-by. One I will be revisiting as the seasons change and the daylight hours lengthen. Here is my first shot over looking Aberaeron. If you are ever this way, make sure you pull into the town itself and stop for a while. The brightly painted houses give light to the darkest day. Nestled there is a lovely harbour, with pretty views over the church and out to sea. The Hive is a fabulous place to stop for a cup of coffee or an ice cream in season. If you have a bit more time, their menu for lunch is good! There are many other eateries in Aberaeron and some quaint little shops. Well worth a visit!

Photo of the day – Grey day

I’m struggling today. I’m exhausted and even simple tasks are taking it out of me. This is okay. I’ve had a hugely busy time over the festive period, I’m just getting over an ear infection. The only downside to when I’m feeling like this, is that it can create an opening for the black dog to come growling around my back door. But today despite pain and fatigue I took myself and the kids out for a short drive along the coast.

I love the sea in winter, when winds whip across the sea, tugging at your clothes, icy rain smatters down on you, waves crash relentlessly at the shore, as if trying to beat it into submission. It’s a desolate place, but it’s that raw untamed beauty which speaks to my soul. It shores up defences against the black dog, makes me feel alive.

One day I will own an off road scooter solution and trundle mountain, hill and dale… but I digress. Today is about a grey day, but even though it’s a grey day, it still can hold beauty and make you feel alive.
